Why dip dye cord is polyester, not nylon
Design effects like dip dye and rainbow colouring are applied to the cord after it's manufactured. Nylon paracord can't take this treatment, since its colour pigment is mixed into the yarn before weaving, so these effects are only achievable on a polyester base.
How it compares to nylon paracord
At around 3.8 mm, dip dye cord is visually close to standard paracord, but the handle is a little flatter and more plastic-like than real nylon paracord. It also cannot be heat-welded to nylon paracord, so keep that in mind if you're combining it with other cord in a single project.
